Canadian Dental Care Plan for Dental Hygiene Care

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) helps Canadian residents without dental insurance pay for oral health care. Yours Dental Hygiene is a registered Canadian Dental Care Plan Provider Edmonton, which means eligible members can book a cleaning with us, show their CDCP card, and have us submit the claim to Sun Life directly.

Registered dental hygienists are recognized CDCP providers. You do not need to see a dentist first to use your coverage for preventive care.

What CDCP Covers Here

Preventive Hygiene Care Under the Plan

The Canadian dental care plan covers most of what a dental hygiene clinic provides. Depending on your family income, the plan pays 100%, 60% or 40% of the CDCP fee, and you pay the rest at the visit.

Cosmetic services such as teeth whitening are not covered. Some services need pre-authorization, and we handle that for you.

CDCP Eligibility at a Glance

You may qualify for the CDCP if you are a Canadian resident, have filed your tax return, have an adjusted family net income under $90,000, and do not have access to dental insurance through an employer, pension or private plan.

Enrolment is done through Service Canada, not through us, but we are happy to walk you through it over the phone.

Questions People Often Ask About CDCP

Do I pay anything at the visit?
If your income band is 100%, usually nothing for covered services. If it is 60% or 40%, you pay your share on the day. We confirm the amount before we start.
Yes. Independent dental hygienists are CDCP providers for preventive services. If you need a filling or other dental treatment, we refer you to a dentist who also accepts the plan.

"My wife and I recently visited Yours Dental Hygiene and had a great experience! A special thank you to Eimee—she was exceptionally thorough, gentle, and professional throughout our appointments. The clinic itself is spotless, welcoming, and very well-run. Eimee took the time to explain everything clearly and made sure we were completely comfortable. Highly recommend this clinic."

"I visited this clinic based on a recommendation from a family friend. Booking an appointment was very easy, and I was able to find a time that fit perfectly with my work schedule. I initially went in for a basic dental cleaning and ended up getting a few sealants done as well. The results were a huge improvement, and I was far more satisfied than I had expected. The staff were friendly and highly professional, making the whole experience even better. I would confidently recommend this clinic to anyone."

No. Whitening and other cosmetic services are not covered. Cleaning, scaling, fluoride, sealants, X-rays and exams are.
The plan covers preventive cleanings with frequency limits set by the plan and scaling units per year. If you need more than the limit because of gum disease, pre-authorization may be possible.
Seniors were the first group enrolled and make up a large share of our CDCP patients. If you are 65 or older without private insurance, you very likely qualify.
Can children use the CDCP at your clinic?
Yes. Children under 18 are eligible if their family qualifies, and we provide cleanings, fluoride and sealants for kids.
The Alberta Dental Assistance for Seniors program is a provincial benefit; the CDCP is federal. If you have provincial coverage, the CDCP coordinates with it. Bring both cards and we sort out the billing.

If you have access to employer or private dental insurance, you are not eligible for the CDCP. Provincial or territorial programs do not count against eligibility.
We do not do fillings. We tell you what we found and refer you to a dentist who accepts the CDCP, so your coverage continues there.
